Here are the FOUR ACTIVITIES You’ll Get:
Activity #1– Dream Catcher and Poster
Have children keep the poster somewhere near their bed. They can look at it before they go to sleep and mentally check off each step. Once they’re ready for a good night’s sleep, they can relax their mind and focus on the positive.
Children can use the foldable to dive deeper into the steps for sweet dreams by drawing pictures and answering questions.
Example: How can you create an environment for sweet dreams?
Draw your perfect sweet dreams environment.
Activity #2– Dream Trapper/Dream Creator
Dream Trapper: Children can walk themselves through this activity by following the steps written on the activity sheet. They start by writing down their bad dream/nightmare on the inside of the trapper and then cutting out the entire shape. Then they fold down each of the flaps until the dream is trapped. When ready, tear the dream up and throw it away.
Dream Creator: Follow all of the same steps for the dream trapper except instead of tearing it up, color and decorate the dream creator and then place it under your pillow to create the best dreams possible.
Activity #3– Write a Letter
This writing activity is a therapeutic way for students to let go of their bad dreams/nightmares and the associated feelings. Assembly is easy. Grab some crayons, glue, and scissors. Double-side print the letter and envelope template. Follow the simple assembly instructions to create the envelope. Once assembled, write the letter, place it inside the envelope, and glue it to seal the envelope shut. For added effect, place the letter in the mailbox to “mail” it to the Dream Processing Center.
Activity #4– Dream Catcher Activity Sheet
Have students follow the four steps on the worksheet to create their own paper dream catcher to hang above their bed to attract sweet dreams.
Emotions from last night’s bad dreams can linger, having an effect on a student’s day and making it hard to focus in class. Use these activities to help students let go of the negative emotions associated with a bad dream, and get back to learning.
These activities will help your second through fourth graders combat the negative effects of bad dreams and nightmares. Help your students to have sweet dreams and manage nightmares.
