I love grabbing children’s attention with meaningful and highly interactive bulletin boards, door displays, and wall art. These act as colorful displays of children’s work, reminders of important skills, dispersers of important messages, and structural support to hang cute inspirational messages.
Everyone loves a good bulletin board or wall display; they make people happy. Here are ten of my favorite display board ideas through the years that have helped create a culture of support within our school community.
Ketchup With Your School Counselor Door Display
I want my students to feel welcome and like they matter when they step foot in my office. I start building rapport and trust with students long before I ever speak with them with this inviting door display.
Each and every time a student passes my door, the fun play on words and cute message reminds them the counselor is always here if they need to catch up.
They might even write you a cute note back. This is one of my favorite display board ideas.
Emotions Posters Interactive Wall Display
Once inside my office, students are greeted with this colorful and catchy wall display. It’s both eye-catching and educational.
I cut the letters out using construction paper and laminated them for durability. I downloaded the posters from the Crafty Counselor Store and found the largest open space on my office walls to create my masterpiece.
The posters are hung in a way that they can easily be taken down. If a student isn’t quite ready to talk or can’t find the words they want, I take the posters down and place them in front of the student.
From there, they can use the posters to help them find the words to better describe how they feel. These posters are such great conversational tools that I’ve prominently displayed them in every office I have ever had.
You can learn more about how I use these posters on my blog.
Be the “I” in KIND Interactive Wall Display
Activities that get kids thinking of ways they can be kind to others and positively impact the world are my favorite activities.
Combine spreading kindness with a huge interactive display for maximum positive results.
It was so fun watching students light up as they became the “I” in kind.
Lines formed as teachers took their pictures to add to fun classroom crafts. This display board idea turned into an interactive school community-building activity.
I’m Lovin’ Being Your Counselor/Teacher Wall Display
What better way to show students you care than to display it proudly on a bulletin board?!
I set this display board idea up around Valentine’s Day and National School Counselor’s Week.
In February, I set this bulletin board display up using only two or three heart phrases at first. I add a few more heart phrases to the board each morning before school starts.
Students are so excited to see which phrases appear overnight.
This display board idea boosts student engagement and creates a special tradition that students look forward to year after year.
Career Countdown Display Board Idea
I have updated and created this career-based bulletin board display for my students for almost ten years. This is my favorite throwback image from 2016 of this display board. It truly captures the student’s excitement.
I remember this moment so clearly and reminisce about the sounds of excited student voices filling the hallway.
“It’s a HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER!” I heard a student say to a friend with so much joy and pure enthusiasm.
“I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT!” The friend said with genuine glee.
I will be chasing the serotonin surge that accompanied that moment for the rest of my life.
This career-themed bulletin board display stays up year-round, revealing a new career monthly. To build excitement, only the #11 and #12 top careers are displayed when this is first hung. Then, for the remainder of the school year, a new career is revealed on the first of the month.
The excitement in the halls is palpable when the moment finally comes. Students can’t wait to come to see the career countdown when we finally reveal the #1 top career of the year.
It’s a fun school-wide tradition and an easy display board idea that lasts all year.
It’s a passive and time-efficient way to help expand students’ thinking about careers and future job paths that may be the best fit for them.
I’ve been creating and updating this career-themed display board since 2016. I find it fascinating how vastly different the top 12 careers can be from year to year and the creation of new jobs based on changes in human lifestyles and technology.
It opens up many lines of career-based conversation among students. I update the top twelve careers posters yearly. They can be found in the Crafty Counselor Store.
What’s Your Superpower? Bulletin Display Board Idea
Ask a kid what their superpower is, and you’ll get some pretty interesting answers.
Most years, I teach a back-to-school meet-the-counselor lesson. My favorite is teaching all about the school counselor’s superpowers.
As part of that superpowered lesson, I give each student a superhero kablammy thingy and ask them to describe their superpowers.
When finished, we display the superpowers for all to see!
Every time they pass this superhero-themed bulletin board display, students are inspired by the superpowers of their school community.
Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life Display
This growth mindset-themed bulletin board display is simple yet highly effective. Students need examples of ways to build a mindset geared toward positive growth.
This helps them to better understand that through continual practice, they can gain the skills and abilities needed to achieve their goals.
Teach students the phrases needed to change their mindset and improve helpful thinking patterns.
Staff Shoutouts Interactive Display Board Ideas
I love this display board idea for staff lounges, front offices, or even hallways for students to interact with. The concept is simple. Supply paper or sticky notes for staff or students to write compliments for others. Uplift others with this fun display board that compliments others.
I’ve often dreamed of spreading this compliment-themed display board into the hallway. This would allow students to celebrate and accomplish their fellow students and staff.
I’ll get back to you if I find the courage to implement this.
Zen Zone Calming Corner and Wall Display
This interactive display is perfect for hallways, classrooms, or offices. In order to utilize calming strategies, children need to be exposed to calming strategies.
Show off ways to stay calm and cope with big emotions in this fun and colorful way.
Students love the interactive components of this display board idea. Use this to teach students how to identify and manage their big emotions.
Growth Mindset Display Board Idea
Some students need visual examples of statements that could be said to improve their mindset and facilitate healthy growth.
Highlight the positive statements students can use to flip around those negative statements that hinder our growth.
This colorful and effective wall display will help foster a growth mindset in your office or classroom.
Mission Statement Door Displays
This one I threw in just for the nostalgia factor. In my first year as a school counselor, I worked in a Leader In Me school. With that came the requirement of displaying our mission statements outside all classrooms and offices.
It made me feel like I was part of a larger school community team and gave the campus a unified look. Reading the mission statement before entering each classroom was a fun way to get to know the teacher a bit better.
It really helped build relationships as we could easily see similarities between ourselves and other staff members.
